Visiting an Inmate

For most Correctional Facilities, visits are to be booked.

ID required for Visit

The first time an individual visits an inmate, they must provide identification and will be given a Visitor Identification Number (VIN). However, if the visitor is under the age of 18 years and is accompanied by an adult, ID is not required. The ID required:

ONE of the following forms of ID:

  • Current Driver’s Licence,
  • Photo card issued by the Roads and Maritime Services
  • Current Passport or one that has expired within the last 2 years
  • any current photo ID issued by an Australian Government Department, Agency or Authority

ANY THREE of the following secondary form of ID:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Confirmation of enrolment letter form the Australian Electoral Commission.
  • Public Utility Account eg. Water, Gas, Electricity and/or telephone bill
  • Current Registration Papers of a vehicle
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Australian Citizenship card eg. Pension Card
  • Department of Immigration and Border Protection Papers
  • Signed Credit or Debit Card
